New supermarket planned on Taunton Road

Oshawa has issued notice of a Planning Act public meeting regarding applications submitted by SmartREIT (Oshawa North) Inc. to amend the Pinecrest Part II Plan of the Oshawa Official Plan (File: OPA-2022-02) and Zoning By-law 60-94 (File: Z-2022-02) for lands located at 991 Taunton Road East, as shown shaded on the map below.

The Oshawa Development Services Committee will be considering the above referenced applications, which have been determined to be complete, said a city statement.

The applicant is seeking to obtain approval for a supermarket to be included as a permitted use on the subject lands. The proposed supermarket will be located within an existing commercial unit and utilize existing built space.

The purpose and effect of these applications is to:

  1. Amend the Pinecrest Part II Plan of the Oshawa Official Plan to permit a supermarket as an additional permitted use.
  2. Amend Zoning By-law 60-94 by amending the existing special condition associated with the PCC-D(4) (Planned Commercial Centre) Zone to permit a supermarket as an additional permitted use.

The public meeting will be held on April 11 at 6:30 pm. It will take place in person in the Council Chamber, Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South. Members of the public wishing to address the committee through electronic means rather than appear in-person to make a delegation are required to submit their request to speak to this matter no later than 4:30 pm on April 6, 2022 by contacting City Clerk Services in writing at clerks@oshawa.ca.
