Woodland by-law replaces Durham Tree by-law

The Regional Municipality of Durham has introduced a new Regional Woodland By-law (30-2020); replacing the previous Regional Tree By-law (31-2012).

  • When: Effective immediately.
  • Where: Across Durham’s eight local area municipalities.
  • Why: To prohibit or regulate the destruction or injury of trees in woodlands within Durham Region.

Note: The Regional Woodland By-law applies to the injury or removal of trees in a woodland of one hectare or greater in size, or in any Sensitive Natural Areas through the use of a permit system. The new by-law allows for the conservation, improvement and management of woodlands within Durham Region, said a statement.
