Durham sees second highest covid day total

No new Covid-19 death has been reported in Durham over the past seven days. The December death toll stays at 51, compared to five deaths in November.

Durham Health yesterday posted its second highest day total of 144 new Covid-19 cases for December 29 bringing the region’s tally to 7,185 since the count began on February 29. Another 44 cases are under investigation. The highest daily total was 165 cases on December 4.

Recoveries stand at 6,280, up by 236. There are 667 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 40 new cases in Pickering
  • 64 in Ajax
  • 25 in Whitby
  • 27 in Oshawa
  • 19 in Clarington
  • 4 in Uxbridge
  • 3 in Scugog, and
  • One in Brock

Thirty-seven cases are hospitalized with nine in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 630 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 238 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,096 in Ajax.

Of the 90 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 42 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
