Durham covid total crosses 7,000 cases

No new Covid-19 death has been reported in Durham over the past six days. The December death toll stays at 51, compared to five deaths in November.

Durham Health yesterday posted 120 new Covid-19 cases for December 28 bringing the region’s tally to 7,040 since the count began on February 29. Another 82 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 6,044, up by 169. There are 758 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 46 new cases in Pickering
  • 56 in Ajax
  • 35 in Whitby
  • 22 in Oshawa
  • 15 in Clarington
  • 3 in Uxbridge
  • 2 in Scugog, and
  • One in Brock

Twenty-nine cases are hospitalized with seven in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 729 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 238 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,032 in Ajax.

Of the 90 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 42 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
