New covid death takes December toll to 52

One new non-LTCH Covid-19 death in Ajax has been added by Durham Health for December 28, taking the month’s toll to 52 – compared to five deaths in November.

Durham Health yesterday posted 140 new Covid-19 cases for December 30 bringing the region’s tally to 7,325 since the count began on February 29. Another 35 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 6,387, up by 107. There are 699 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 33 new cases in Pickering
  • 34 in Ajax
  • 37 in Whitby
  • 24 in Oshawa
  • 13 in Clarington
  • 5 in Scugog, and
  • Three in Brock

Thirty-seven cases are hospitalized with 12 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 662 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 239 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,130 in Ajax.

Of the 90 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
