One person has been found dead after a house fire in the Municipality of Clarington.
Out of respect for the family, the individual’s name has not been released, according to Clarington officials.
Apart from the information that the fire took place on Sunday/Monday in Courtice, no further information was released. No statement from Clarington Emergency and Fire Services could be found.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted as is normal procedure in incidents like this.
“I’m heartbroken to share that earlier today (Monday) our community experienced a tragic house fire that resulted in the loss of a life,” said Sami Elhajjeh, Clarington Councillor Ward 1.
He said emergency crews responded quickly to the scene.
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster said this was a sobering reminder of early fire detection.
“We’re deeply saddened as a community after losing a Courtice resident in Sunday’s house fire. On behalf of Clarington Council, I want to share our heartfelt condolences and support with the family, friends, and everyone grieving this loss. We’re also thinking of our firefighters, who put so much on the line and are feeling this tragedy profoundly. As a community, Clarington stands together with everyone affected by this heartbreaking event.
“This is a sobering reminder for all of us about the importance of early fire detection. Every second counts during a fire; please ensure you have working smoke alarms for your family’s safety,” Foster added.
