Oshawa named a global leader in energy savings

The City of Oshawa has received the 2020 Canada Region Institutional Energy Award from the Association of Energy Engineers.

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), a nonprofit professional society of over 18,000 members, recognizes individuals and organizations around the world for their dedication and performance in the energy industry, said a city media statement.

In 2020, the city has so far conserved more than 1.8 million kWh of electricity and 300,000 mof natural gas through various projects and initiatives. This translates to more than 650 metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent of Greenhouse Gas Emissions,it said.

Oshawa will be presented its award virtually at the AEE World Energy Conference & Expo on November 18.

“Oshawa is a city that takes energy conservation seriously. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without our commitment to Oshawa’s Strategic Plan, which places Environmental Responsibility as a goal and strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy use,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter.
