Oshawa asks residents to join city committees

Oshawa has invited residents for appointment to city boards and committees.

The move is to give the public an opportunity to volunteer their skills and time to deal with various issues associated with the city management, said a city statement.

“City Council will consider the names of Oshawa citizens who wish to stand for appointment.  An application form must be completed with a resume attached and is available at City Clerk Services, City Hall, Fifth Floor, Rundle Tower, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa or at www.oshawa.ca (under News & Alerts or by searching ‘Volunteer Opportunities’), it said.

The deadline for receipt of completed application forms is 4:30 pm, Friday, January 24, 2020.

Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee

Advise and assist the City of Oshawa in developing and facilitating strategies and actions towards a barrier-free Oshawa.  Members include persons with disabilities, parents representing children with disabilities and individuals interested in issues related to persons with disabilities.  Term is to November 2020 (One appointment).

Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee

Assist, advise and educate City Council, staff, and the community with respect to the protection, enhancement, restoration, management and appreciation of the natural and built environments.  Regular monthly meetings are held with the exception of July and August.  Term is to November 2020 (One appointment).

Oshawa Central Business District Improvement Area Board of Management

To improve, beautify and maintain lands, buildings and structures in the area owned by the City of Oshawa in the designated Central Business District Improvement Area beyond such improvement, beautification and maintenance as is provided at the expense of the municipality at large, and the promotion of the area as a business or shopping area.

There is currently a vacancy for one individual who is a current member (owner or tenant) of the improvement area designated by By-law 94-74 or nominee of a corporate member who is an officer or director.  A resume must be attached to your application.  If you are applying as a nominee of a corporate member, you must include with your application a letter of nomination from the corporate member confirming your nomination and the fact that you are an officer or director of such corporation.  Term is to November 2022 (One appointment).
