Oshawa fire fundraiser overshoots $20,000 target

A fundraiser to help the survivors of the tragic Oshawa fire on Olive Avenue has raised more than the $20,000 target in one day, according to GoFundMe.

Draven Sterling organized the fundraiser for his uncle Bobby. His uncle’s home caught fire in Oshawa around 1am on March 22nd, and only him, his wife, and one of their three children made it out of the house. The bodies of both children were recovered on March 23rd.

“Bobby’s family has lost 2 of their beloved children. The pain they are feeling is indescribable. Everything they owned was destroyed in the fire. Any help is greatly appreciated. They have to rebuild their lives from the ground up,” said Sterling in his appeal.

By last night, $20,176 was raised of the $20,000 goal from 351 donors.

“My entire family is so thankful for everyone who has shared and/or donated to our GOFundMe. There are innumerable costs arising from this heartbreaking situation. Every share and cent helps…Thank you everyone,” Sterling said.
