Oshawa killer identified as relative from Manitoba

Durham police investigators have confirmed the identity of the lone attacker in yesterday morning’s shooting in Oshawa, as a family member from Winnipeg.

Mitchell Lapa, age 48, of Dalhousie Drive in Winnipeg, Manitoba was a relative of the family and was an uninvited person to the home. The vehicle located at the scene with Manitoba plates is registered to Lapa, said a police statement.

Lapa was the sole shooter in this incident and he died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Homicide Unit is still investigating the motive for the shooting and will release the identity of the other deceased parties after a post mortem is conducted and all applicable next of kin are notified, said the statement.
