Oshawa man swipes car, crashes into tree and flees

An Oshawa motorist is facing multiple charges after striking a vehicle on Centre Street South, crashing into a tree and running away from the scene.

On October 1 at 12:20 pm, Central East Division officers were called to Centre Street South in Oshawa for a collision near Lloyd Street. A southbound vehicle was sideswiped by a vehicle driving west on Lloyd Street.

The suspect vehicle then proceeded south on Centre Street, lost control and struck a tree on the west side of Centre Street, south of Mcgrigor Street, near the entrance to Rotary Park. The male driver was seen exiting the vehicle and running westbound toward the Midtown Mall. A passenger in the suspect vehicle was stopped from leaving by a witness.

The suspect was arrested by an officer in the west parking lot of the mall.

Richard Fukumoto, age 56, of Mary Street North in Oshawa has been charged with Fail to Remain; Careless Driving and Drive While Under Suspension. He was later released on a Promise to Appear notice.
