Oshawa moves ahead with Columbus development

The City of Oshawa yesterday announced it is introducing Part II Plan for the Columbus Planning Area.

It will require amendments to the Oshawa Official Plan for which the city will be seeking public input.

The purpose of the proposed city-initiated amendments to the official plan are to:

  1. Introduce a Part II Plan for the Columbus Planning Area, comprised of the following:
    • Part II Plan policies;
    • Land Use and Road Plan;
    • Transportation Plan; and,
    • Environmental Management Plan.
  2. Implement reciprocal amendments to the Part I Plan as a result of the introduction of the Part II Plan for the Columbus Planning Area which include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Removing Section 2.14.3 ‘Columbus Special Development Area’;
    • Amending Section 8.0 “Part II Plans” to remove references related to preparing a Part II Plan for the Columbus Planning Area and adding a new policy outlining that a Part II Plan has been prepared for the Columbus Planning Area; and
    • Amending Schedule ‘A’ (Land Use), Schedule ‘B’ (Road Network), Schedule ‘D-1’ (Environmental Management), Schedule ‘E’ (Part II Planning Areas) and Schedule ‘F-1’ (Natural Heritage System Components) to align with the various schedules prepared for the Part II Plan.

A city statement said the Oshawa Economic and Development Services Committee will be considering the official plan amendments for the lands outlined in red on the map (below) at a public meeting on March 6 at 6:30 pm at the Council Chamber, Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre Street South.
