The Britannia Avenue East Bridge, running over the Oshawa Creek located between Pindar Crescent and Bridle Road, is now open.
The bridge will be an asset for Oshawa Fire Services in improving response time and coverage east of Bridle Road.
Approved as part of the 2018 Capital Budget Process, the $6.2 million bridge spans 120 metres over the Oshawa Creek becoming the longest street bridge constructed by the City of Oshawa. The project included a new two-lane roadway with sidewalks, bicycle lanes to support active transportation and energy-efficient LED lighting along the bridge.
The construction of the bridge over Oshawa Creek was completed without any alterations or impacts to the channel system, its floodplain or to the aquatic ecosystem. The project included restoration work to restore native plants and habitat for bats.
