Retired PSD Blitz passes away peacefully

It’s with sadness that DRPS announces the passing of retired Police Service Dog (PSD) Blitz. Alongside his handler Detective Constable Wes King, PSD Blitz served the Durham Region for 10-years.

Blitz was responsible for apprehending more than 100 criminal offenders and locating dozens of individuals suffering from mental health issues – resulting in many lives being saved.

One of Blitz’s more memorable locates involved tracking a distraught suicidal teenaged boy who had fled his home into a dense wooded area. Upon deployment, Blitz tracked the male for approximately two kilometres. He located the boy standing by a large oak tree with a rope. Officers spoke to the male and he was taken to the hospital to receive mental health assistance. If it wasn’t for Blitz’s incredible skill and drive, the outcome of this incident could have been very tragic.

PSD Blitz passed away peacefully with D/Cst. Wes King and his family by his side.

Thank-you retired PSD Blitz for your valued service. You have made your handler, family and police service very proud.
