‘Our Town Oshawa’ debuts on American TV on Oct 25

‘Our Town Oshawa’ will make its broadcast debut on WNED-TV October 25 at 10 pm., where it will be available to viewers across Southern Ontario and Western New York.

‘Our Town Oshawa’ is the 19th episode in the ‘Our Town’ series in which community videographers using their own video cameras tackle the question: “What is special about our community?”

The result is a one-hour video scrapbook of the people, places and happenings of Oshawa as seen through the eyes of our community members. Among the topics featured, include:

  • Arts and culture, including the Oshawa Museum, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, and visual and performing arts
Regional landmarks and history, including the legacy of R.S. McLaughlin, Regent Theatre, Genosha Hotel, and Windfields Farm
  • Parks and recreation, including Lakeview and Alexandra parks and Oshawa’s trail network
  • Hidden gems, including TeachingCity Oshawa, Oshawa Generals, Humanitarian Oshawa and community events

In June, some 25 community videographers of various ages and experience attended pre-production organizational meetings and brainstormed a list of about 100 different ideas before voting on which topics should be featured. The final program showcases the people, places and activities that have made Oshawa the dynamic and innovative community it is today. Each of the videographers then chose one of those topics and spent two weeks capturing video of their topic.

A special premiere screening was held in downtown Oshawa on September 24 at the Regent Theatre.

“Oshawa is traditionally known for its strong automotive roots and our City has been undergoing a transformation as an emerging centre for higher education and health sciences research,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “But for the people who live here and know us best, it’s the rich cultural treasures and quality of life that make them proud to call Oshawa home.”
