Passenger dies in head-on crash, one driver seriously hurt

Durham Police yesterday said a 70-year-old female passenger is deceased after a head-on collision in Oshawa.

On Monday, April 10 at about 3:40 pm, officers from Central West Division responded to a report of a head-on-collision between two vehicles on Simcoe Street North near Howden Road.

A grey four-door Volkswagen had been travelling northbound and white four-door Nissan had been travelling southbound when the two vehicles collided head-on. The male driver of the Volkswagen was transported to local hospital with minor injuries. The female driver of the Nissan was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she remained in serious condition, said a police statement.

The front passenger of the Nissan, a 70-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries, it said.

A male rear passenger in the Nissan was transported to a local hospital Oshawa with minor injuries, it added.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
