Sex predator posed as police officer to entice victim

Durham Police yesterday said a 36-year-old male is facing Sexual Assault charges after meeting a woman online and posing as a police officer in Pickering.

On March 28, members of West Division Criminal Investigation Branch became involved in a sexual assault investigation. The suspect met the victim online and identified himself to her as a police officer and gained her trust, said a police statement.

The suspect attended the victim’s home in Durham where he sexually assaulted her. Through the investigation it was determined that he was, in fact, not a police officer, the statement said.

The suspect from Toronto is charged with: Assault, Sexual Assault, and Impersonating a Peace Officer x2.

The Durham Regional Police are seeking the public’s assistance to locate any other potential victims or persons with information that could lead to identify other potential victims, who may have been contacted by the accused.
