Durham Police yesterday aid they are investigating a threat towards Pine Ridge Secondary School in Pickering.
Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) did not reveal the nature of the threat. However, the school premises were placed on a hold-and-secure yesterday afternoon after the threat was notified to the police.
Officers from DRPS West Division are looking into the incident. There will be a police presence to ensure everyone’s safety,” said a DRPS tweet.
Pine Ridge Secondary School serves students in grades 9-12.
“We are aware a threat to our school was communicated earlier today (Thursday, November 28),” said a statement from the school principal.
The school went into a Hold-and-Secure to ensure student safety. A Hold-and-Secure means that exterior doors are locked to ensure all students remain in the school. The Hold-and-Secure was in place from approximately 1:25 pm to 2:10 pm when the all clear was issued from DRPS. Police were onsite and investigating and school is considered safe, said the statement.
“Please know that this incident was thoroughly investigated and was confirmed that there was no credible threat. Our school was determined to be safe and we carried out a regular school day. As a result of the threat, our Community Police Protocol was activated,” said the principal.
“We want to take this opportunity to remind students of their responsibility in being respectful on social media and in the school. Please consider the potential consequences and the confidentiality of others before creating or sharing online content, rumours, or other questionable information. We encourage anyone with questions or concerns to contact the office,” the statement added.
