Police save distraught man on Highway 401

On August 30, at 6:30 pm, in Whitby, members of Central West Division responded to numerous reports of a distraught male on the railing of the 401 overpass.

A traffic services officer located the male walking down the embankment towards the highway and then attempting to cross live lanes of traffic on Highway 401.

The officer followed the distraught male into the live lanes and managed to pull him to safety as other officers arrived to assist.

The male was apprehended and brought to a local hospital for assessment.

Great work by officers who put their own safety at risk to ensure sure the male was not harmed.
