PSD Riot bites 18-year old gun-toting robber

An 18-year-old male faces numerous charges after an attempted break and enter and a home invasion in Ajax Tuesday morning.

On August 31, at about 2:30 am, members of West Division were called to the area of Hewitt Crescent for reports of a break-and-enter in progress. The victim heard noises in his backyard, went to investigate and saw a male suspect, armed with a gun, attempting to break into a rear window. The suspect was unsuccessful in gaining entry and fled from the scene.

The K-9 Unit, PSD Riot and his handler tracked the suspect along Barbour Street in Ajax where he was apprehended by PSD Riot. The male was taken to local hospital with minor injuries from a dog bite and released.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect committed a home invasion on the same street prior to the break and enter and confronted two teen residents while armed with a firearm. The suspect fled the first home without taking anything.

Police searched the immediate area and located a loaded firearm.

Avante Harrison, age 18, of Burcher Street in Ajax, is charged with: Home Invasion; Loiter/Prowl at Night x2; Attempt Break and Enter; Point Firearm x2; Assault with a Weapon x2; Possess Weapon for Committing an Offence x2; Firearm Unauthorized Possession x2; Uttering Threats of Bodily Harm and Death; Weapons Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession; Prohibited/Restricted Firearm with Ammunition and Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime.

He was held for a bail hearing.
