Racist graffiti vandalizes bus stop, police investigating

Durham Police investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the individual responsible for vandalizing a bus stop with racist graffiti in Clarington.

The incident occurred on Thursday, November 28, at a bus stop located at Roenigk Drive and King Street West in Bowmanville. Officers discovered racist language scrawled across various parts of the bus stop.

Anyone with information about the incident, including any relevant surveillance footage, is urged to contact the Durham Regional Police Service at 1-888-579-1520.

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster has strongly condemned the act of vandalism. “This small-minded act does not reflect the values of our community,” he said. “Clarington is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and respected.”

The mayor thanked Durham Region Transit (DRT) for promptly removing the graffiti and the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) for their ongoing investigation.

DRPS had issued no statement as of last night and Clarington did not release any further details.

The Durham Regional Police Service works closely with the Diversity Advisory Committee to address issues affecting diverse communities within the region.
