Racist hate literature resurfaces at Whitby doorsteps

Almost a month after first reports of racist literature surfacing in Whitby were reported to Durham Police, the practice continues.

In a new advisory issued yesterday, the Town of Whitby said it has been notified that some hate speech has been circulating.

“Hate speech of any kind has no place in our community, and the Town of Whitby will not tolerate it. If you receive any literature that includes hateful or racist content, please file a report with DRPS at 1-888-579-1520,” said the advisory.

Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell

Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell, reiterated an earlier statement issued mid-January condemning racism. He issued another tweets yesterday.

“It’s come to my attention again that there is a disgusting piece of racist literature being left at some homes in our town right now.

“So as to not give a platform to this rubbish, I will share no further details as to the nature of this message other than to say that I condemn both the content and the act itself.

“As I’ve stated previously, hate speech of any kind has no place in our community, and the Town of Whitby will not tolerate it. I encourage anyone who has received similar literature to file a report with DRPS at: 1-888-579-1520.”
