Random Ajax attack triggers Swat-like response

Durham Police yesterday said a 50-year-old female is recovering in hospital after being stabbed multiple times on Sunday night in Ajax.

On May 7 at about 9:30 pm, members of West Division responded to a stabbing call on Torr Lane in Ajax and located a 50-year-old female suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she remains in stable condition, said the police statement.

Officers were quickly able to determine the location of the suspect and set up containment around a residence. The Criminal Investigations Unit authored a search warrant and, with the support of the Tactical Support Unit, entered the address and arrested a 26-year-old male without incident, it explained.

The suspect and victim are not known to one another, and police believe this was an unprovoked attack. There is currently no risk to public safety, it said.

Police did not reveal any possible motive for the attack.

The suspect from Ajax has been charged and was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Det. Smith of the West Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2528.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name the accused as:
1. Of this time, they are suspects and not convicted, and
