Durham Police investigators are looking for a suspect after two commercial robberies in Whitby and Ajax Thursday night.
On March 3 at about 9 pm, members of Central West Division were called to the Cash and Cell Mart, Dundas Street West, in Whitby for a commercial robbery. The suspect entered the store and demanded cash from the employee. After an altercation, the suspect grabbed the cash register and fled on foot. The suspect was last seen running in the White Oaks area. K-9 Unit attended and secured the area with negative results. The employee did not sustain any injuries, said a police statement.
It was determined that the same suspect was also responsible for a robbery of a Money Mart, Kingston Road East in Ajax at around 8:30 pm. The suspect entered the store brandishing a stick and demanded cash. The employee locked themselves in an office while the suspect tried to gain entry into a room where the safe was located. Unsuccessful, the suspect fled the scene, it added.
The suspect is described as male, Black, 18-25 years of age, 6’ tall with a skinny build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, pulled tight around his face with a white drawstring, black pants and running shoes.
