Uxbridge launches online permit application system

Building permit applications in the Township of Uxbridge have moved online with the introduction of e-permitting software.

The Cloudpermit system, which is partially funded by the Provincial Government’s Municipal Modernization Fund, enhances residents’ ability to submit various permit applications through the township by visiting www.uxbridge.ca/building/.

Applicants can use the online software to submit applications, inspection requests, seek approvals, submit questions, and make direct payments from the comfort of their own home or office, any time of day, seven days a week. The system also supports on-location work such as conducting site inspections and uploading images and comments remotely, said a township statement.

“This is a major step in modernizing the services we deliver,” says Kyle Rainbow, Director of Development Services. “Residents and businesses can now apply for and receive permits, check the status of reviews and book inspections online. It’s more efficient for residents and staff, and allows people access to the services we offer whenever it’s most convenient for them.”

The Development Services department has seen a sharp increase in the number of requests for permits to support renovations and new development, especially over the past two years. This new electronic process will help to make the process of obtaining a permit more efficient. The application and online permitting system will be used to issue permits for construction, pool enclosures, secondary suites, demolition permits, and sign permits among others. Building inspections will also be booked and managed using the system.

Staff are available to support residents who wish to apply for a permit at Town Hall. Applicants are advised to bring electronic versions of all application material on a data-stick to be loaded into the system.
