Second homicide of 2024 claims life of 62-year-old man

Durham Police yesterday said a male is in custody and a second male is outstanding in Durham Region’s second homicide of 2024.

On Monday, January 22 at about 11:30 pm, members from Central East Division were called to the area of Dean Avenue and Ritson Road South in Oshawa for reports of a disturbance.

Officers arrived on the scene and located a 62-year-old male outside the residence suffering from obvious signs of trauma. He was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today morning, said a police statement.

Officers received information that two suspects had fled the area on foot and were able to locate one of the suspects a short distance away. He was taken into custody without incident. The K9 unit assisted with an evidence search of the area.

The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is asking for anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to please contact police.
