Shootings over the weekend in Ajax, Oshawa

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers are investigating two separate incidents where guns were fired in public over the weekend. No injuries from gunshots were reported.

On Saturday, July 18, at approximately 12:45 am, several citizens called about gunshots being heard in the area of the River Breeze Complex located on Westney Road north of McGill Drive in Ajax. Officers located a shell casing on Smith Lane, where there was evidence of a backyard party nearby, police said.

Further information identified a wounded male who had left the area prior to police arrival. The 47-year-old male was later located and investigation revealed he was struck by an object, but was not shot. He refused medical treatment. No other victims have come forward and there is no suspect description, it added.

In a separate incident on Saturday, July 18, at about 2 am, officers were called to Sproule Crescent in Oshawa regarding multiple gunshots being heard and loud cars leaving the area. Officers located multiple shell casings in the middle of the road in front of a residence being used as a short-term rental. The house was being used for a party but was vacant when officers arrived. No victims or property damage has been reported, police said.
