Southgate stabbing victim to recover fully

Durham Police yesterday said a male suspect, who was arrested after a stabbing in Oshawa on Friday morning, is undergoing medical examination under the Mental Health Act.

The male victim was stabbed in the chest after an altercation on Southgate Drive, said a media release. He is expected to recover fully.

On February 7 at 10:35 am, members of East Division were called to the area of Southgate Drive in Oshawa for a stabbing. The victim was involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect and was stabbed in the chest. The suspect fled in a vehicle but was later located by officers near Brock Street and Consumers Drive in Whitby. The suspect was taken into custody, the release said.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Toronto-area hospital for treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be assessed under the Mental Health Act.

A 29-year-old male from Oshawa was charged with: Aggravated Assault; Assault with a Weapon; Possession of Weapons Dangerous; Break and Enter and Uttering Threats. He was held for a bail hearing.
