Oshawa announced that it has reduced the speed limit in five neighbourhoods across the city to 40 kmh.
Following the pilot program, city staff will report their findings and make recommendations for a program to introduce more 40 kmh areas throughout Oshawa.
“Watch for the signs! Speed limits have been reduced to 40 kmh in Downtown Oshawa and four more neighbourhoods across Oshawa as part of a new city pilot program to improve community safety,” said a city announcement.
These reduced neighbourhood area speed limits will help improve road safety by reducing speed limits that are typically a maximum of 50 kmh down to 40 kmh for an entire neighbourhood. New ’40 km/h Area’ signage (image below) will be installed at entrances and exits to all neighbourhoods which will indicate where the neighbourhood area speed limits are in effect, the city said.
