Suspect held but break-ins continue at storage facility

Durham Police investigators from Central West Division continue to investigate a rash of break and enters at a storage facility in Whitby.

One suspect was arrested on July 9, however break and enters continue to occur at the Valiant Storage on Victoria Street East in Whitby.

There have been 76 reported break and enters to storage units on the property in 2021.

During some of these incidents, the lock was cut, the unit was entered and items stolen, before a replacement lock was put on the unit by the suspect, in order to elude detection by management, security and police. Some of these break and enters went unreported until the owner returned to check on their units.

Investigators have had difficulty at times contacting owners of the specific units due to outdated address and contact information.

If you are a customer and rent a storage unit at this storage facility, investigators are requesting that you protect your property with a high-quality lock, physically check your storage units and ensure management has up-to- date contact information.

Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact Central West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1825.
