Suspect surrenders after seeing photo on DRPS site

On Thursday, October 17, a crime was solved in Durham when a suspect turned himself in after viewing his own photo on Durham Police’s ‘Help Solve A Crime’ webpage.

Durham Regional Police Service launched ‘Help Solve a Crime’ through its website on October 15, allowing the community to see images of suspects to help solve local crimes.

“Photos and video surveillance are helpful tools for our investigators when trying to solve crimes of all magnitudes. These captured images assist with identifying suspects and evidence and persons of interest in unsolved crimes. We added a new area to our website www.drps.ca called “Help Solve a Crime” to allow members of the public to view images of suspects/person of interest in crimes. We are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying these suspects and helping the DRPS solve crimes in Durham Region,” said a police statement.

The photos are attached to a summary of the offence along with contact information for the officer in charge of the incident.

To view the pictures log on to the website www.drps.ca and click on the ‘Help Solve a Crime’ link at the top of the page.
