Theft from cars hours after ‘Lock It or Lose It’ drive

Durham Police said a 24-year-old Oshawa male was arrested for entering vehicles in the same neighbourhood where officers had just concluded a ‘Lock It or Lose It’ campaign.

On Wednesday, October 14, in response to an increase in theft from motor vehicle crimes in the area of Masson Street and Aberdeen Street in Oshawa, members of Central East Division conducted a Notice of Community Crime (NOCC) initiative. Officers distributed ‘Lock It or Lose It’ flyers to educate and alert citizens in the area about simple steps they could take to prevent property theft. About 75 residences were visited, said a police statement.

Several hours later, at approximately 1:45 am on October 15, officers were directed to an address where a man was observed trying vehicle door handles in the immediate area. The male was arrested and found with stolen property, including change, keys and a wallet. He also had an extendable baton in his possession, police

Tristen Whalley, age 24, of Elgin Street in Oshawa, is charged with: Trespassing at Night; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x2; Possession of Weapons Dangerous; Carry Concealed Weapon; Breach Probation and Breach of Recognizance. He was held for a bail hearing.

Pickering Drive: Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers and auxiliary were in the Pickering Beach Road area from 6-8 pm yesterday conducting a campaign related to thefts from unlocked vehicles.
