Thieves smash and grab ATM from inside a bank

Durham police are looking for suspects after an ATM was stolen from a bank in Whitby.

On Tuesday, September 2 at about 3:20 am, members of Central West Division responded to 5530 Baldwin Street South for an alarm call at the Bank of Montreal.

Officers arrived and located an excavator that the suspects used to gain entry into the bank by smashing the front entrance. Once inside the bank, the suspects stole an ATM and fled in a dark-coloured vehicle prior to police arrival, said a police report.

Anyone with information, including cell phone or dash-cam footage from the area of Baldwin Steet South and Roybrook Avenue is asked to contact D/Cst Wheaton of the Central West Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2428.
