Stalwarts of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) have been out and about, monitoring traffic and nabbing violators.
In one incident along Green Road and Remington Street in Clarington on Thursday, police clocked a driver doing almost two-and-a-half times over the speed limit – and that too near a day care centre.
The motorist was merrily speeding away at 72kmh in a posted 30kmh zone. Two young children were on board, and the speeding was next to Holy Family C/S day care, police said.
The driver was charged with stunting and fined $2000, given 6 demerit points, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 14 days, police said.
Balding Tires: DRPS East Division officers caught another driver on Trulls Road and Avondale Drive in Courtice, Clarington.
The motorist had two front balding improper tires, defective brakes making the vehicle (image below) unsafe, as well as several other modifications, police said.
Distracted Driving: Meanwhile, DRPS Central East Division officers were yesterday patrolling Oshawa looking for distracted drivers.
Police issued a reminder stop using your cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. It promised zero tolerance.
