The City of Oshawa has announced an upcoming road closure while the Region of Durham has alerted residents of lane restrictions in the Town of Ajax.
Oshawa: The city announced that Athol Street West will be closed to through traffic starting October 15.
No through access will be available for emergency vehicles. Road closure and detour signs will be posted in accordance with provincial standards, it said.
The closure between Centre Street North and Simcoe Street North will last until October 20.
The hard closure will be from 7 am to 5 pm in front of 39 Athol Street. Full access will be provided to Michael Starr building.
The road will re-open after working hours, the city said.
It apologized for the inconvenience it may cause, and said the closure was needed for lifting material onto the site by mobile crane.
Ajax: The Region of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions and temporary lane closures on Westney Road North (Regional Road 31) in the Town of Ajax.
These will be during daytime from today (October 14) until the 16th. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule, the region said.
Westney Road North will be restricyed from 100 metres south of Concession Road 5 to 100 metres north of Greenwood Road.
Lane restrictions will be in place for the safe replacement of a culvert, ditching improvements and paving work. As construction progresses, temporary lane closures will be required to complete the asphalt surface.
This work is to support development and maintain a safe roadway for travellers and construction workers, the region said.
One lane will remain open at all times with traffic control personnel in place to direct traffic.
The region said it realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete it as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
