Two dead, one serious as crash car bursts in flames

wo people were pronounced dead and an elderly female transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries in a collision early yesterday morning in the Township of Scugog.

On October 3 at 8:10 am, members of North Division were called to Simcoe Street and Old Simcoe Road in the Township of Scugog for a serious collision involving a white Ford Ranger and a white Volkswagen sedan. The Ford Ranger was travelling northbound on Simcoe Street when it lost control and struck the southbound Volkswagen.

The Ford Ranger became fully engulfed in flames and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the sedan was taken out of the vehicle and officers performed C.P.R, however the 71-year-old Lindsay man succumbed to his injuries. The 71-year-old female driver was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Members of the Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed while evidence was collected at the scene.

Police believe speed may be a contributing factor in this collision.

Simcoe Street and Old Simcoe Street were later reopened between Shirley Rd, Coates Rd and Scugog Line 2.
