Two suspects believed to be responsible for break-ins and damages to about 15 businesses in Ajax and Whitby, have been caught and are facing charges.
On Thursday, May 7, members of West Division responded to a property damage call at Buy and Sell Kings located at 95 Bayly Street West. Police were contacted after security discovered several windows at the business had been smashed.
Investigators determined that at least 15 businesses in the surrounding area, including a bank, restaurant, cannabis store and coffee shop, had sustained similar damage to their storefronts.
The suspects are also believed to be responsible for additional property damage incidents in Whitby.
On Tuesday, July 7, investigators with the West Crime Team executed a search warrant at a residence in Oshawa. A male suspect was located a short distance away from the residence and taken into custody without incident. During the search, investigators located two stolen motorcycles, a prohibited expandable baton, several dealership keys, a fake licence plate, ammunition, and a flare gun modified to shoot firearm ammunition.
On Wednesday, July 8, the second suspect was located at a residence in Pickering and taken into custody without incident.
At the time of these incidents, the 31-year old man from Oshawa was on weapon prohibition conditions and was held for a bail hearing.
The 35-year old man from Pickering was released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
