Durham Police yesterday said its Financial Crimes Unit has identified and arrested a male and female who sold booklets they fraudulently claimed were in support of the Clarington Flames Hockey Association.
The suspects are affiliated with a business.
The Clarington Flames Girls Hockey Association is not affiliated with this business or the suspects and has not received any donations. The coupon books are legitimate coupon books; however, the proceeds were not ending up with the Clarington Flames and the suspects were not acting on behalf of the organization, said the police.
The male, age 53, and female, age 44, both from Oshawa, were charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Anyone who may have been defrauded by the suspects or the firm, or who has any information about this or similar incidents is asked to contact Det. Chapman of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5352.
Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
1. Of this time, they are suspect[s] and not convicted by a court, and
2. Sometimes charges are amended or dropped.
