Two police constables arrested for money theft

Toronto Police Service has arrested two of its constables, TPS announced yesterday.

In June, members of the Service’s Professional Standards Unit commenced an investigation into allegations of Theft Over and Perjury.

In May, members of 12 Division arrested a male for various drug and gun related offences. At the time of his arrest, a quantity of cash was seized. It is alleged that officers failed to account for a portion of that money.

Furthermore, in February of 2018, officers testified at the preliminary inquiry of the said male person. It is alleged that officers provided false or misleading testimony.

All charges against the male person were subsequently stayed at the discretion of Public Prosecutions Services of Canada.

Police Constables Aseem Malhi (12 years service) and Richard White (12 years service), both of 12 Division, turned themselves in to Professional Standards on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 and were charged with the following offences:

Charge #1: Theft Over $5000, CC 334(b) – Jointly charged
Offence Date: May 23rd, 2017
Offence Location: 1885 Wilson Avenue

Charge #2: Obstruct Justice, CC 139(2) – Jointly charged
Offence Date: May 23rd, 2017 – February 23rd, 2018
Offence Location: City of Toronto

Charge #3: Perjury, CC 131(1) – Each are individually charged
Offence Date: February 22nd, 2018
Offence Location: Old City Hall – 60 Queen Street West

The officers have been suspended with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.

Both officers were released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking before the OIC.
