UK Durham call leads to arrest in Ajax home incident

It doesn’t happen every day, and certainly not in domestic dispute incidents, but a cross-border call, all the way from – believe it or not – Durham in the United Kingdom, led to an arrest in our own Ajax.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) were contacted by police in the United Kingdom which resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old male in a domestic-related incident in Ajax, said a police statement issued yesterday.

On Wednesday, February 9, at about 11 am, police from Durham Constabulary in the United Kingdom received information about a disturbance at a residence in Ajax. Durham Constabulary contacted DRPS with the information and members of West Division responded to a residence in the area of Audley Road and Taunton Road East. When police arrived the male suspect fled from police and was eventually located in a residential yard. The male refused to obey commands of the responding officers and during an altercation, the officer deployed his Conducted Energy Weapon (taser) and the male was arrested.

The female victim received medical attention for her injuries.

The 35-year-old male of Clarington was arrested and is charged with Break and Enter into a Dwelling House; Assault; Forcible Confinement; Forcible Detainer; Fail to Comply with Release Order and Disobey Lawful Order of Court;

He was held for a bail hearing.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact D/Cst. Musial of the Major Crime – Domestic Violence Investigative Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3762.
