Upcoming Durham road closures, lane restrictions

The Regional Municipality of Durham has announced a road closure on Westney Road North (Regional Road 31) in the Town of Ajax.

  • When: The closure is from July 11 to September 2. The entire construction project is anticipated to be completed by May 2023. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
  • Where: Westney Road North, from north of Taunton Road West to just south of the CP Rail line, in Ajax.
  • Why: To safely complete road reconstruction work to widen Westney Road to five lanes.

Lane restrictions in Whitby

The Regional Municipality is advising residents also of lane restrictions on Taunton Road East (Regional Road 4), in the Town of Whitby.

  • When: July 16 to August 15. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
  • Where: Taunton Road East, from Brock Street North to McKinney Drive, in Whitby.
  • Why: To construct an entrance for new development.

Lane restrictions on Anderson Street

The Regional Municipality announced lane restrictions on Anderson Street (Regional Road 36), from Crawforth Street to Dundas Street East, in the Town of Whitby.

  • When: July 18 to September 5. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
  • Where: Anderson Street, from Crawforth Street to Dundas Street East, in Whitby.
  • Why: Road widening and an entrance to support new development.

The region said it realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
