The Township of Uxbridge has announced that Mayor Dave Barton, in collaboration with Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt, will host a Tariff Town Hall on March 27.
The event will be held virtually and in-person at Uxbridge’s Town Hall. Details will be sent to registrants prior to the event. This event aims to foster dialogue amongst industry leaders, business owners, and key stakeholders, said a township announcement.
It encouraged local businesses to attend, connect, and learn from one another. The meeting will provide a platform to share insights, explore potential solutions, and help shape the township’s response efforts.
Last month, the township council, through a report from Mayor Dave, has delegated staff to prepare a Buy Canadian policy to further support the local and national economy. This initiative aims to strengthen local businesses, protect jobs, and ensure economic resilience in the face of external trade challenges. By prioritizing Canadian-made products and services, the township said it is taking proactive steps to reinforce economic stability and encourage sustainable growth within our communities.
The earlier township statement said the U.S. tariffs with Canadian retaliatory tariffs, will cause broad impacts on jobs and the local economy.
Durham Region, with the cities, towns, and townships as well as the Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade have combined forces to create a plan to support the impacted businesses and residents of Durham.
