What will to happen to the King Street Parkette?

The Township of Uxbridge has issued a public notice on November 14 announcing its intention to rezone King Street Parkette from ‘recreational’ to ‘residential’.

“This notice is to inform you that the Township of Uxbridge has received a Zoning By-law Amendment Application which has been deemed complete in accordance with the requirements of Section 34 of the Planning Act,” said the announcement.

The subject property is located on the north side of King Street West between the west side of Balsam Street North and the east side of Beech Street North. It is municipally known as the King Street Parkette. The location of the property is illustrated on the key map below.

The notice said the purpose of the proposed zoning by-law amendments are:

  • The subject property is zoned ‘Recreational (RE)’ zone under the Township of Uxbridge Zoning By-law No. 81-19, as amended. The purpose and effect of this application is to rezone the lands to the ‘Residential First Density Zone (R1)’ in order to permit residential uses on the property.
  • The subject property generally designates the lands as ‘Community Areas’ under the Durham Regional Official Plan, as amended.
  • The subject property generally designates the lands as ‘Living Area’ under the Township of Uxbridge Official Plan, as amended.

The Planning Committee will hold a hybrid statutory public meeting on December 2.
