Landfill no good for dog park, Clarington to look for new site

Clarington Council was informed that soil testing at the identified site for a new dog park in north Bowmanville has provided poor results.

Based on the staff report Clarington Council has directed that a new site be identified on municipal-owned lands and reported back to the council by the first quarter of 2025.

Staff had provided the council with an update on the search for lands to host a second dog park in Bowmanville.  One already exists in south Bowmanville, near Darlington Marina and beaches.

“Following a geotechnical investigation and soil testing on the former Jackman Road Landfill Site, staff confirmed that due to potential risks to both dogs and their owners, this is not a suitable site for a dog park,” said a statement from the Municipality of Clarington.

It said staff will continue to work to identify an alternate, cost-effective location for the development of a new dog park in north Bowmanville, considering the recommendations set in the recently approved Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan.
