Where to buy a house in Durham for under $1 million

Despite affordability challenges, many Canadian homebuyers would prefer to buy a single-family home over a condo.

In fact, a 2024 survey of Canadian homebuyers conducted by digital real estate platform Wahi revealed that most buyers (64 per cent) would rather own a house – especially younger homebuyers.

The company’s latest report reveals where you can potentially get a better deal on a house right now in the Greater Toronto Area if your budget is below $1,000,000.

Here are the top 10 GTA neighbourhoods where the median sales price of a single-family home was below $1 million in January.

  1. Central Oshawa: median sold price: $655,000.00
  2. Eastdale-Donevan, Oshawa: median sold price: $760,000.00
  3. Windfields Oshawa: median sold price:$782,500.00
  4. Downtown Ajax: median sold price: $789,000.00
  5. McLaughlin, Oshawa: median sold price:$790,000.00

  9. Brampton North: median sold price:$820,000.00
  10. Centennial, Oshawa: median sold price:$845,000.00

Of the more than 400 neighbourhoods within the Greater Toronto Area, 53 had houses that sold for under $1 million in January, excluding neighbourhoods with less than five sales, said a Wahi statement.
