89-year old crash victim serious after dump-truck hit

A Whitby female was taken to a Toronto trauma centre after a serious collision in Oshawa Tuesday afternoon.

On July 2 afternoon, around 2:10 pm, members of Central West Division were called to Winchester Road West and Thornton Road North in Oshawa for a two-vehicle collision.

An 89-year-old female was operating her silver Dodge Caravan southbound on Thornton Road at the intersection of Winchester Road West when she was struck by a Volvo dump truck travelling eastbound on Winchester Road.

The elderly female of the Dodge suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Toronto area hospital. The 21-year-old male driver of the dump truck didn’t suffer any injuries.

The 21-year-old Brampton man was charged with Careless Driving.

Jen StoneNowhere does it say the dump truck is at fault. It said the dump truck hit the car, but it is very possible that dump truck had a green light, and the 89 year-old woman had a red and went through it, or didn’t see it.

Jenn Taillon – How many 21 year olds have the experience necessary to operate a dump truck? Maybe had a license for a whole, what, 3-5 years at best… must know everything by then! Hope the lady is okay but expect that won’t be the case..she and her family are in my prayers. X

Alison RobichaudWe drove by right after it happened. Emergency vehicles we not on scene yet. A large group of people were attending to the woman in the van. Hoping she is ok. Truck driver looked shaken and on his phone making calls. Hopefully to 911. It looked really bad. My heart goes out to all involved. Regardless of how it happened and why, those trucks need to slow down. Even on Grandview they are going 80 km an hour. Who else has to get hurt before they slow down?

Mary Cecilija DobranicPraying the poor lady is alright. Have you ever been on those roads and seen the way those trucks go….they dont care and its such a populated area. Alot….im not saying all…but alot of these new &^%$ drivers sbouldnt be driving trucks.

Tanya MulderAnother dump truck, I’ve said this before and was bashed for saying it but I’ve read about way too many horrible accidents involving dump trucks. With all the 407 construction going on there is a huge number of these trucks on the road. These trucks need to slow down. And 21 driving a dump truck, how much experience can this kid have?😡

Dave GeeI am not surprised by the number of accidents /incidents on the roads today. I have never seen so many idiots driving who shouldn’t be. Improper lane changes, rolling stops at stop signs etc. Do drivers know that STOP means STOP !

Taylor WrightI dont see why people think age is an issue.. if you say ppl cant drive trucks till 30yo or 40yo, then they will still be new to it. being 20 has no impact on this persons ability to drive/ learn to drive.
