Whitby man rams police cruisers and manages to flee

A 35-year-old Whitby male who is banned from driving is facing 40 charges after he fled police, struck three cruisers with a vehicle and was found in possession of stolen property.

On Tuesday, July 23, officers from Central West Division located a wanted male, who is prohibited from driving, in a vehicle in the area of Brock Street North and Taunton Road East in Whitby. Officers attempted to box in the vehicle with both marked and non-marked cruisers. He rammed the three cruisers and fled the area at the high rate of speed.

Officers were able to reach the male via cellphone and convinced the male to safely pull over.

Daniel Varcoe of Bourbon Place in Whitby, has been charged with 40 offences, including: Flight from Police While Being Pursued; Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Assault with a Weapon x4; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x5, Theft under $5,000 x4; and Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited x13.

He was held for a bail hearing.

The investigation is continuing.

Patrick Minogue A lengthy jail term would fix than nonsense, instead of the prosecutor dropping 38 of the charges and the judge letting him out in 30 days to reoffend.
