Whitby starts on Flooding Assessment Study

Whitby has commenced a Town-wide Urban Flooding Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study to evaluate the town’s urban storm sewer and overland flow network’s existing capacity.

It will also determine flood vulnerable areas in severe rainfall. The study will also provide the town with a quantitative understanding of climate change impacts on the existing stormwater system.

The assessment will include recommendations for hydraulic capacity improvements that are necessary to meet the town’s design standards, as well as recommendations for future town flood mitigation projects.

As part of the study, a Community Open House will be scheduled to gather feedback from residents.
