Winter parking comes into effect from today

Both the cities of Pickering and Oshawa have announced winter parking restrictions in effect as of today (December 1).

Oshawa announced the change late last month (see below), while Pickering issued the media statement yesterday.

The City of Pickering is reminding the public that winter parking restrictions will be in effect from December 1st, 2022 to March 31st, 2023, it said.

During this period, on-street parking is prohibited on all municipal streets from 2 am to 5 am, and during any winter control operations. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed, with fines ranging from $35 to $90.

These restrictions are in place to maintain safe conditions for vehicles and pedestrians, and to accommodate the city’s winter control operations, said the statement.

Vehicles parked on the street not only slow down the city’s snow clearing operations and leave large amounts of snow on the road after the vehicle has been dug out, but are subject to possible damage. If a vehicle is left parked on the street during snow clearing operations, the city will not be liable for any damages caused by street maintenance equipment.

Visit pickering.ca/parking to learn more about these restrictions, how to submit a parking consideration request, or pay a parking ticket, and more.

In Ajax, proactive patrols for vehicles parked on the street during an inclement weather event starts November 15.

In Whitby, there is no overnight parking from November 1 to April 15, from 2 am to 6 am to assist with winter road maintenance.

In Scugog, there is no parking on township roads from November 1 to April 15 between 2 am and 6 am.

Search for winter parking in other municipal websites was unsuccessful.

Oshawa winter parking will be effective December 1
