Environment Canada has issued a Weather Travel Advisory in effect for Southern Durham Region.
It forecast snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm, with higher amounts possible locally. There will be reduced visibility in areas of heavier snow, which was forecast to begin last evening and end Saturday morning.
Travel along Highway 401 may be hazardous at times.
Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop, the weather agency said.
It said Saturday will be mainly cloudy with wind of up to 15 kmh. Mercury will be at a high plus 1°C. Wind chill minus 7°C in the morning. UV index at 1 or low.
Tonight will be mainly cloudy, hitting a low of minus 8°C with wind chill of minus 3°C in the evening and minus 11°C overnight.
